The Importance of Consistent Content

What many business owners don’t understand is that it is vital to be consistent with the content you provide your audience. Even when you don’t feel like it, no one responds, or your following is nonexistent.

If you decide that you would like to increase your business awareness and profitability, then you need to know that engaging with your audience is key. Social media, blogs and emails are essential to your success. More importantly still, is the consistency of which you post your content.

Whether you are someone who posts on social media - 3 times a day, twice a week, or once a month. You need to be consistent, you can post more, but you shouldn’t post less. And don’t fall into the trap of a nonexistent presence or posting once in a blue moon.

If your presence is nonexistent then you are actively not helping yourself, you may have some success, and some sales, but you are greatly limiting your potential. The same can be said for only posting once in a blue moon.

First, it’s a difficult way to gain an audience, and secondly it is a missed opportunity, that you could be using to advertise your product or service, or to develop an empathetic connection with your audience.

If you decide early on that you are going to post a blog every Friday like I do, then you must commit to that. Your audience will expect it and will appreciate the consistency.

If your audience is small, or they don’t respond, don’t lose faith. Keep at it. It may seem pointless to start with, and many business owners do in fact give up not long after starting, due to this reason, but don’t be like them.

The people you admire, who you follow, celebrities, comedians, influencers, vloggers and bloggers all started out in the same position… the difference is they didn’t give up. These are the people you need to take inspiration from.

99.99% of businesses don’t succeed overnight, they have to put in the work, and consistently engaging with their audience is a big part of that.

I know I am more likely to follow accounts with regular engagement. It shows their value and authority in their field. It shows they’re passionate about what they do, that they believe in their brand and what they have to say. It also shows that their business is current and active, and that they value their audience.

If you don’t yet have a following, it is still important to have a blog and social media ready to go. For instance, if I found an interesting blog to read, I may be more inclined to want to read other blogs written by the same person, especially if what I’ve already read from them has offered me value. If they then have nothing else to offer, I’d likely click away. But if they had a library of content, just waiting for me, the chances of me sticking around increases exponentially.

This is what you want to achieve.

The same applies to social media accounts, the more content available to look at, the more likely your audience will stick around to engage with your business.

e.g.

Let’s use Netflix as an analogy.

The trailer (post or ad) for a show (the business) catches your attention, if you see it came out years ago, but only had a few episodes. You may not be inclined to watch it, because it obviously wasn’t good enough to justify renewing for more episodes (inactive posting). Or it releases episodes at random intervals throughout the year (inconsistent posting). If you are like most people, you’d rather not waste your time. You want to watch something great, that was renewed for lots of seasons (the library of content) that you can binge, invest in and get excited for what is yet to come (new content). That also releases a new episode every week (consistent content).

You can bet that is the show that is going to be watched (The business that is going to be successful).

When starting out, be careful not to overcommit. As you can always add more content at a later date if you choose to, but burning out from trying to do too much at once can be damaging. Take it one step at a time.

Once you’re more established, your audience will be more forgiving if you miss a deadline. Just do your best, and offer them something of value.

Remember your audience don’t need perfect, they just need truth. Your truth, you, your business, your raw vibrant self. You’ve got this!
